hnology Offer Terahertz Pulse Undulator

Background
Field of technology: Producing intense light based on free electron laser.
Challenge: Using common, magnetic undulators, short wavelength free electron
lasers need long (on the order of 100 m) undulator, and high energy (on the order of
GeV) electron accelerators, having about one km length. These very huge facilities are
also very expensive. The aim of the invention is to use such undulator which makes
possible reducing the size and the prize of short wavelength free electron lasers.
Brief descrip�on
The solution is an undulator created by the standing wave
of two counter-propagating extremely intense terahertz
pulses. The undulator period is dictated by the wavelength
of the terahertz pulses. The intensity-front of the terahertz
pulses is tilted in order to reach higher terahertz field
strength using a given terahertz pulse energy.
Development status: Design of the undulator is done.
Detailed design, and proof of applicability is needed.
IP Status: Patent pending and know-how. The disclosed
method is fully owned by the University of Pécs.
